Concentrate on the red dot between the two men’s faces on the top. When you look down at the second red dot, what do you see?
The illusion comes from an effect called neural adaptation, or sensory adaptation, and it is the way the brain understands things changing over time. It’s the same kind of sensation when a noise might seem louder the first time it’s heard :) Source: The independent. Do you remember the movie Gattaca? Perhaps you have read the book "A happy world"? Both stories show a future were the embryos could be or were designed. It has been an ethical discussion in last decades whether to modify genetically human beings should be practiced. To be honest, if I knew that my baby could have a genetic illness and by a modification the disease is prevented, wouldn´t I try it? But of course, genetic manipulation can go further.. A first step has been done by Chinese scientists. Click on the picture below and find out what! Please leave a comment in the forum if you would like to start a discussion on this topic.
Quite often when reading some articles about new applications or developments it is quite difficult to understand how things really work. Maybe a vague idea of what is behind can be understood, but the details are missed. This article is an example of a good explanation of how something works. In this case a new magnetic field detector has been developed using diamonds. Do you want to know more? Discover it by clicking on the picture below!
It is often that we see news related to Quantum Computers, or new emerging companies which invest in quantum research areas promising the emerge of the most sophisticated technologies. I have also read that teleportation could be feasible in the near future. But, where are we actually in all this? Can we think that quantum computers will be sold in any store in the next years? Unfortunately the reality is far from that. In order that you get an overview of the current status on quantum technologies, please read this article in Nature Physics by clicking on the picture below. What is you opinion? Have you ever asked yourself what does the Higgs Boson sound like? Well, apparently somebody did and they tried to "play" the results of the different experiments which led to the discovery of the God particle. Enjoy! We are all familiar with people continuously cracking the fingers. This is a topic which have been debated by scientists for long time, since it was not clear why it was produced. If you click on the picture below, you can enjoy a video of this phenomena. Because looking at something from a different angle can shed light on the understanding of the topic.
Recently somebody asked me whether I was aware of the Loon Project. Curiosity made me start to look for it and I was overwhelmed for the idea. By means of balloons this project aims to connect people to the internet all over the world in all areas, even those remote ones. Please have a look to the video below or enter in the project webpage: http://www.google.com/loon/ to know more. Good ideas for our mankind. Today I have found this article and I have no other choice that to share it with you. It is well known that mostly of the times, in order to calculate the trajectory of a celestial body, we use probabilistic laws. What if the results differ "just a little bit" from the calculations? What could it happen? Discover more about this apocalyptic news by clicking on the asteroid below..
For a very long time humanity tried to understand what everything around us is made of. But it wasn't until the 19th century that the idea of the atom was widely accepted but the scientific community. In this nice and funny video we can understand how we are now able to look inside matter and see the atom. Because great ideas can take years until they can be finally proven.
