Concentrate on the red dot between the two men’s faces on the top. When you look down at the second red dot, what do you see?
The illusion comes from an effect called neural adaptation, or sensory adaptation, and it is the way the brain understands things changing over time. It’s the same kind of sensation when a noise might seem louder the first time it’s heard :)

Nice! Another crazy illusion caused by neural adaptation is related to motion detection:

I often have this illusion when traveling on a train and looking out the window. When the train stops at a station I get the sensation that the train is moving (slightly) backwards.
